Authorities in Bergen County have arrested a Bergenfield man in connection with a hit-and-run that left a teenage pedestrian seriously injured.
According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, 37-year-old Elvis E. Sunder was taken into custody following an investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the Teaneck Police Department.
The investigation, led by Chief Matthew Finck of the Prosecutor’s Office and Chief Andrew McGurr of the Teaneck Police Department, identified Sunder as the driver involved in the incident.
The crash occurred on the night of Saturday, November 23, 2024, at approximately 11:22 p.m. when Teaneck police responded to a 911 call reporting that a pedestrian had been struck at the intersection of Teaneck Road and Tryon Avenue.
When officers arrived, they found that the vehicle had fled the scene. The victim, a 17-year-old girl from Englewood, was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.
Investigators determined that the pedestrian had been hit by a 2015 BMW.
The driver, instead of stopping to assist or alert authorities, fled the scene.
After a months-long investigation, law enforcement officials identified Sunder as the individual behind the wheel at the time of the crash.
On Monday, February 3, 2025, Sunder was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury, endangering an injured victim, and obstructing law enforcement.
He was taken to the Bergen County Jail and is awaiting his initial court appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.
