Bergen County Teen Arrested in Armed Gas Station Robbery

A 16-year-old Bergen County resident has been arrested and charged in connection with an armed robbery that took place at a gas station in River Edge, officials reported.

According to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella, the incident occurred early in the morning on Wednesday, August 7, 2024, around 4:45 a.m.AdRiver Edge police officers responded to the scene of the robbery at a gas station on Hackensack Avenue, where an employee reported being threatened by an armed individual.

The investigation revealed that the suspect, wearing a mask and hooded sweatshirt, approached the gas station employee and brandished a handgun tucked into his waistband.  

He demanded money from the cash register and from the employee, fleeing with several hundred dollars.

Through a joint investigation conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Investigations Squad and the River Edge Police Department, detectives were able to identify the suspect as a 16-year-old juvenile from Bergen County.

On Thursday, August 8, 2024, detectives located the teenager and took him into custody. A court-authorized search warrant was executed at his residence as part of the investigation. 

The teen has been charged with armed robbery, weapons offenses, and theft.adThe juvenile is currently being held at the Bergen County Juvenile Detention Center as the case proceeds through the Bergen County Superior Court Family Law Division.
