A tragic single-vehicle accident claimed the life of a Bergen County man on Interstate 80 in Warren County on Sunday night.
The crash occurred near milepost 11.3 in Hope Township at approximately 8:20 p.m., according to a statement released by New Jersey State Police.
The victim, identified as Carmine Argenziano of Bogota, was driving an SUV westbound when the vehicle veered off the roadway and collided with trees.
Following the impact, state police officials said the SUV caught fire, police said. Argenziano was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other injuries were reported.
The crash temporarily disrupted traffic on the interstate, but delays have since cleared.
Authorities have not disclosed further details as the investigation into the cause of the crash remains ongoing.
Local Bergen County officials expressed their condolences to the family and friends of the victim as the community mourns this devastating loss.
