A 37-year-old Dumont man was arrested Saturday morning after police spotted him driving on Washington Street with a person on the roof of the car.
According to authorities, officers on Washington Street near First Street stopped Khaled Makhlouf, 37, of Dumont, after police say he was driving at a high rate of speed with a passenger sitting on the roof of the vehicle.
Officials say when officers approached the vehicle they smelled a strong odor of alcohol emanating from the car. Police say Makhlouf had slurred speech and droopy eyes and could not complete
a field sobriety test.
Subsequently, officers arrested Makhlouf and issued Hassan Ali, 27, of Wallington - the person who was riding on the roof – a summons for disorderly conduct.
Police say Makhlouf was later released to a friend.
