Bergen County Library to Host 8th Annual Black History Film Series in February

This February, the Englewood Public Library will honor Black History Month with its highly anticipated Eighth Annual Black History Film Series. Scheduled for Thursdays at 2 p.m., the screenings will take place in the Library’s Mackay Room and will be hosted by the Programming Department.

Donation The event is free to the public, and no prior registration is required, according to information released by library officials.  

This year’s series features a carefully curated selection of films that celebrate the resilience, struggles, and triumphs of Black individuals throughout history.

The scheduled lineup includes:  

- February 6: The Rosa Parks Story – A powerful portrayal of the life and legacy of Rosa Parks, whose courageous actions ignited the Civil Rights Movement.  

- February 13: The Express – A biographical sports drama about Ernie Davis, the first African-American to win the Heisman Trophy.  

- February 20: Bessie – An inspiring look at the life of legendary blues singer Bessie Smith.  

-February 27: BlacKkKlansman – A Spike Lee film based on the true story of Ron Stallworth, an African-American detective who infiltrated the Ku Klux Klan.  

The series, now in its eighth year, has become a cherished tradition in the community, offering residents an opportunity to gather and reflect on pivotal moments in Black history through the lens of film.  

“Our Black History Film Series is a meaningful way to educate and inspire our community,” said a library representative.

“Each of these films tells a story that resonates deeply and offers valuable lessons about courage, determination, and hope.”
