Bergen County authorities announced the arrest of Mr. Avi Mandel, 30, of Teaneck, NJ on charges of Endangering The Welfare Of A Child, Possession Of Marijuana, and Possession Of Narcotic Paraphernalia.
Officials said on Tuesday, September 1, the Division of Child Protection and Permanency reported to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit that a four-year-old child had been brought to Hackensack University Medical Center because the child was lethargic and unable to stand.
Officials say medical tests indicated that tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the primary psychoactive compound in cannabis, was present in the child’s body.
An investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Teaneck Police Department revealed that the child was in the custody of Mandel at the time the substance was consumed.
The incident remains under investigation.
