Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced the arrest of David Persaud, a 40-year-old resident of Woodbridge, Virginia, on charges of sexual assault.

The arrest follows an investigation led by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, under the direction of Chief Matthew Finck, in collaboration with the Englewood Police Department, headed by Chief Thomas Greeley.

The investigation began on May 29, 2024, when the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office was contacted regarding allegations of a past sexual assault involving a juvenile.

According to investigators, Persaud sexually assaulted the juvenile on multiple occasions in Englewood during 2003 when the victim was between the ages of 13 and 18.

As a result of the investigation, Persaud was charged on August 6, 2024, with two counts of second-degree sexual assault.

On August 8, 2024, detectives from the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, with assistance from the Prince William County Police Department in Virginia, arrested Persaud at his Woodbridge residence.

He is currently being held at the Prince William County Adult Detention Center, awaiting extradition to Bergen County, NJ.

Prosecutor Musella emphasized that the charges are accusations, and Persaud is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

He also expressed gratitude to the Englewood Police Department and the Prince William County Police Department for their assistance in the investigation.
