Officials for the Essex County Prosecutor's Office have been notified of a Belleville Police pursuit that ended in a crash with severe injuries reported at a location in Newark's Central Ward.
According to a preliminary investigation, police began to chase a vehicle that refused to stop for police at a location in Belleville.
Police say the driver sped through several sections of Belleville until it reached the area of Bloomfield Avenue and Mount Prospect Street, where the violent collision into a NJ Transit Bus occurred.
The bus driver was treated for non life-threatening injuries.
The male suspect was rushed to University Hospital for treatment and listed in critical condition, according to police.
Newark Police arrived at the scene and provided traffic control assistance while detectives conducted the investigation.
The Essex County Prosecutor is leading the investigation.
