Belleville township officials have announced the completion of a long-awaited municipal parking lot at 211 Washington Avenue, marking the first such development in decades.AdAccording to information released by Township Manager Brian Banda, the 28-space lot includes two accessible spaces and will soon feature two electric vehicle charging stations.

The new parking lot, managed through the ParkMobile app, is a significant step forward for the community.

Mayor Michael Melham highlighted the project’s benefits, noting its potential to revitalize the area.

“This is a strategic investment for Belleville,” Melham said. “This project not only replaces what had been a deteriorating building but also increases parking accessibility, which will undoubtedly benefit our downtown shops, restaurants, and businesses. Its proximity to the Belleville Public Library makes it a valuable resource for library patrons as well.”

The lot was built on the site of a former veterinarian’s office and is expected to be a self-sustaining project over time, thanks to metered parking.

In addition to the Washington Avenue project, the township is working on creating another public parking lot in the Silver Lake section on newly acquired land, according to Mayor Melham.  AdThese initiatives are part of Belleville’s broader efforts to enhance infrastructure, support local businesses, and improve accessibility for residents and visitors alike.
