A 29-year-old Bayonne woman was sentenced today to a term of probation for the death 28-year-old Anthony Gant of Newark.
On Sept. 17, 2014, Jessica Manno went to Newark to purchase drugs from Anthony Gant but an altercation between the two led to Gant punching Manno in the face.
As Manno tried to drive away, Gant who held onto her car, sideswiped a parked car knocking him off. The injuries he sustained led to his death. According to reports, Manno did not alert police of the incident nor did she remain at the scene.
Once she was arrested, Manno was charged with vehicular homicide and endangering an injured victim.
On Feb. 29, Manno, 29, admitted leaving the scene of a fatal accident as part of a plea agreement that ultimately dismissed vehicular homicide and endangering an injured victim charges.
In accordance with a plea agreement, Manno was sentenced today to a suspended three-year state prison sentence (which was suspended since she already served approximately nine months in jail) and five years of probation. She was also ordered to participate in an intensive, in-patient drug treatment program, must perform 250 hours of community service, and her driver's license will remain suspended until July 2017.
