A Bayonne man was charged with killing his mother in an apartment at a housing complex in the city authorities said.
According to authorities, on January 2, 2017, Michael Metro, age 49, was charged with the murder of his mother, Kathleen Metro.
Both mother and son lived together in the Pamrapo Gardens Public Housing Complex located on East 50th St. in Bayonne according to authorities.
Michael Metro was charged by members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit at Jersey City Medical Center where he was being treated for several injuries.
He was charged with one count of Murder in violation of N.J.S. 2C:11-3a, a first-degree crime. Metro is being detained at the hospital and a Superior Court Judge has granted that he be held with no bail option.
According to authorities, on December 31, 2016, at approximately 10:50 p.m. Bayonne Police Officers were dispatched to the Pamrapo Gardens Public Housing Complex on a 911 call of a man injured in the courtyard behind that building.
Upon arrival, officers found a male, later identified as Michael Metro with injuries to his upper body.
Officers discovered an open third-floor apartment window above the area where the man was found.
Upon entering that apartment, Bayonne Police Officers observed the lifeless body of a female, later identified as Kathleen Metro, age 69, lying on the floor with visible trauma to her upper torso.
The medical examiner has determined that the cause of death was asphyxiation and the manner of death was a homicide.
Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Bayonne Police Department for helping with the investigation. The Bayonne Fire Department assisted the law enforcement agencies.
The above charges are merely accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty. R.P.C.3.6(b)(6).
