Firefighters in Bergen County are currently battling a massive tanker fire on Route 17 in Hasbrouck Heights.
The emergency response was triggered by reports of a truck fire near the White Castle restaurant in the 30's block of the highway.
Upon arrival, crews were met with a daunting scene: the truck was fully engulfed in flames, with the fire rapidly spreading to nearby vehicles and at least one building.
Fire departments from the surrounding region are contributing mutual aid to assist Hasbrouck Heights firefighters in containing the blaze.
Officials report significant progress in battling the truck fire, with much of it now extinguished. However, efforts continue as firefighters work diligently to extinguish flames that have engulfed nearby vehicles.
The southbound side of Route 17 is primarily affected, but motorists can expect significant traffic disruptions in both directions.
Authorities are advising drivers to seek alternate routes to avoid the area.
As the fire continues to rage, efforts are underway to bring the inferno under control.
