An early morning fire at a Fairfield car auction lot left as many as 20 cars destroyed.
Crews responded to A Skyline Auto Auction on Route 46 sometime around 5:30 a.m. after a security guard reported several cars on fire at the lot.
Crews who remained at the scene as of 7:30 a.m. putting spot fires out were able to contain fire from spreading among the thousands of vehicles that are kept at the lot.
Approximately 20 cars were damaged in the fire, Fairfield Police Deputy Chief Anthony Manna said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
