Newark officials are urging the community to come forward with any information regarding a robbery that happened on January 15.The Newark Police Department is investigating the incident after two suspects followed a man into an apartment building in the 500 block of North 6th Street and attacked him.
According to a statement released by Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr., the suspects targeted the victim in a calculated manner.
Once inside the building, one suspect grabbed the victim in a chokehold while the other removed his wallet from his pocket.
Police said the duo then fled on foot, heading northbound on North 6th Street.
The stolen wallet contained the victim's ID, two bank cards, and $200 in cash.
Detectives have released descriptions of the two suspects and are seeking public assistance in identifying them.
The first suspect is described as a Hispanic male standing between 5'9" and 5'11" with a thin build and light complexion. He was last seen wearing all-black clothing, a ski mask, and black-and-white Nike sneakers.
According to Newark Police, the second suspect, also Hispanic, is described as between 5'5" and 5'7" with a thin build and light complexion.
He was wearing black clothing, a ski mask, a green hoodie, and white New Balance sneakers.
Director Miranda emphasized the importance of community cooperation in solving this case. "We need the public's help to bring these suspects to justice," he said in his statement.
