Authorities in Union County are investigating a hit-and-run incident that left a pedestrian seriously injured early Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred around 1:10 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Route 1&9, near the Linden and Rahway border.Emergency responders from Linden arrived at the scene and found the victim suffering from a broken arm and other injuries after being struck by a vehicle, which then fled the scene.
Police closed several lanes on the highway and requested an accident investigation team to assist in the case.
During the investigation, Rahway Police discovered a vehicle in a nearby McDonald's parking lot.
The driver reportedly told officers they believed they had hit something in the roadway but were unsure what it was. The driver was detained for further questioning.The investigation remains active and ongoing as authorities work to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
