Police in Newark are reporting that officers have determined that the suspicious packages located in the 600-block of Delancy Street today are inert.
According to police at approximately 2:26 p.m., Newark Police and Firefighters responded to reports of two suspicious objects.
Police said for precautionary reasons, businesses and houses in the immediate area were evacuated and streets closed as bomb techs and other members of the Emergency Service Unit responded to the location.
Technicians examined the devices and determined that they were inert although they were fashioned to resemble explosive devices.
The two items found posed no threat although police continue to search the area.
The investigation is active and ongoing with police attempting to identify and locate the responsible individual(s).
