Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray has announced that authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Monday night in Orange.
According to authorities, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Orange police officers responded to the area of Main and Park Streets on reports of shots fired.
Arriving officers located an unresponsive male lying in the street suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
The victim, who has been identified as Mazo F. Jones, age 37 of East Orange, was pronounced dead at the scene at 9:52 p.m., according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly of the Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit.
This incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force.
The investigation is active and ongoing at this time, according to Fennelly.
