Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable announced today that the Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force are investigating a fatal shooting.
Shortly after 9 p.m. last night there was a report of a shooting in the 200 block of Jelliff Avenue. When police responded, they discovered Sujahda Vereen, 21, of Newark. He was transported to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:19 p.m. yesterday.
At this time the motive is undetermined and no suspects have been identified. The investigation is active an ongoing.
