Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose have announced that authorities are investigating an incident in which a male was fatally shot in Newark, NJ late this afternoon.
According to authorities, at approximately 4:00 p.m., Newark police officers were dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of South 10th Street on a report of a shooting.
Arriving officers discovered an unresponsive male inside a residence at that location authorities said.
The male, who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, was rushed to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:24 p.m., according to Chief Assistant Prosecutor Thomas S. Fennelly, of the Prosecutor's Homicide Squad.
The victim has been identified as **Devion B. Burch, age 20, of Newark,** according to Fennelly.
This incident is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department.
The investigation is active and ongoing at this time, according to Fennelly.
