Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable announced today that the Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force are investigating a fatal motor vehicle incident.
According to authorities, at around 2 pm yesterday a pedestrian was struck and killed by an armored van while crossing Raymond Boulevard between McCarter Highway and Mulberry Street.
The pedestrian has been identified as Roosevelt Bennett, 57, of Newark. Bennett was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:32 pm.
At this time no charges have been filed. The investigation is active and ongoing.
