Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Camden County Police Chief Scott Thomson are investigating an early morning homicide.
Camden County Communications received a 911 call at approximately 12:20 a.m. on Wednesday about a gunshot victim in the area of 8th and Jefferson streets in Camden. Additionally, the Camden County Police Department’s Real-Time Tactical Operational Intelligence Center (RTTOIC) received a ShotSpotter activation for gunfire in the 700 block of Ferry Avenue.
Responding officers were directed to a residence on the 1900 block of South 8th Street and found Jahid Hudson, 31, of Camden, lying on the living room floor with a gunshot wound.
He was transported by ambulance to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at 12:54 a.m.
Preliminary findings indicate Hudson ran from the area of Ferry Avenue to the residence of an acquaintance to seek help after being shot.
An investigation into the shooting is ongoing. No arrests have been made at this time. Detectives are working to determine a motive.
