Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose announced today that the Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force are investigating a fatal shooting.
According to authorities, at approximately 12:11 am today, Newark Police responded to a report of a shooting in progress in the vicinity of 51 Poinier Street.
When they arrived on the scene they discovered Gerard W. Jones, 49, of Hackettstown in a vehicle suffering from multiple gun shot wounds.
Jones was pronounced dead at the scene authorities said.
The investigation is active and ongoing. No arrests have been made at this time.
