Authorities have identified the 39-year-old Little Ferry woman killed last night in a multi-vehicle crash on the New Jersey Turnpike.
Police responded to northbound lanes of the New Jersey Turnpike near mile marker 98.7 at approximately 8:26 p.m. for reports of a crash with injuries.
According to Sgt. First Class Gregory Williams of the State Police, a 2007 freight liner tractor trailer disabled on the shoulder when the driver of a 2005 Toyota lost control and struck the rear of the trailer. The Toyota came to rest in the center lane causing a 2015 Volkswagen to lose control and ultimately also hit the freight liner.
The driver of the Toyota was later identified as Thomas Burgos, of Little Ferry. He was transported to University Hospital with serious injuries. His passenger - Colleen Burgos, also of Little Ferry - was pronounced dead at approximately 9:08 at Rahway University Hospital, according to police.
The driver of the Volkswagen suffered what police described as minor bodily injuries.
The incident remains under investigation.
