Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable have announced that authorities have identified the Jersey City man shot and killed Sunday morning.
Sometime around 10:30 a.m. Sunday, police were dispatched to the area of Cypress Street for a report of a shooting in progress.
Arriving officers located a victim - later identified as 52-year-old Rickey Elliott -suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
Elliot was was rushed to University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:16 a.m.
No arrests have been made.
