Authorities in Elizabeth, Newark Seek Carjacking Suspects

Union and Essex County authorities are on the search for several armed carjacking suspects that struck in Elizabeth and Newark overnight. 

Police in Elizabeth responded to reports of a carjacking that occurred outside a club shortly before 1 a.m. in the 200 block of Broad Street. The suspects (only described as two black males) were possibly occupying a light colored Hyundai when they stepped out of the vehicle,  produced a weapon, taking a silver BMW from a male victim. 

The vehicle taken has a reported NJ license plate number "L29-AFZ"

Over in the West Ward of Newark, police are looking for four black males that stole a burgundy 1998 Nissan near South Orange Ave. and Speedway Ave. around 4 a.m.  One of the suspects was reportedly armed with a gun.

This was the second reported carjacking in the city's West Ward within a 3-hour time span. The first carjacking occurred about 2 blocks away on North Munn. 

No injuries were reported in either incident.
