Authorities have released the identities of the 35-year-old mother, Melanie Polito and her 19-year-old daughter, Ashley Baez, who were found dead in a Bayonne home yesterday, Hudson County Executive Assistant Prosecutor Gene Rubino said.
The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Homicide Unit with assistance from the Bayonne Police Department continue to investigate as to what caused the death of the two. They added that no visible signs of trauma were discovered on either the mother or daughter.
However, authorities did say that drug paraphernalia was found inside the apartment.
No arrest have been made. According to police, sometime around 9 a.m. boyfriend of Melanie came back into the home after shoveling snow when he discovered the deceased bodies in the living room.
The 35-year-old mother lived in the apartment with her two daughters, ages 19 and 18, and her 2-year-old granddaughter.
The 2-year-old child was inside the home at the time of the discovery. The child was taken to Bayonne Medical Center for observation.
While initial reports came in as possible carbon monoxide poising, the Bayonne Fire Department determined that carbon monoxide levels were within normal limits in the home.
