The Hillside Police Department is looking for suspects wanted for an attempted carjacking Sunday night.

According to Chief Vincent Ricciard, at approximately 9:00 p.m., a 34-year-old resident of Chatham was driving a gray 2011 Volkswagen on Winans Avenue.

Chief Ricciardi said at the intersection of Schley Street, a silver BMW SUV suddenly stopped in the middle of the intersection.

As the driver of the Volkswagen attempted to avoid a crash with the BMW, a white 2022 Audi stopped behind the BMW, causing the driver of the Volkswagen to crash into the Audi.

At this point, Chief Ricciardi said the driver of the BMW made a U-turn and pulled behind the Volkswagen.

The driver of the BMW exited the vehicle and went up to the Volkswagen driver, showed him a handgun in his waistband, and said, "You want to get killed; give me your money."

Chief Ricciardi said the victim exited his car and began pleading with the suspect to stop.

The suspect then went into the Volkswagen and took the victim's wallet containing about $50 in cash. Immediately after taking the wallet, Chief Vincent Ricciardi said the suspect got into the BMW and fled with the occupants from the Audi, leaving the Audi at the scene.

The Audi was subsequently towed by police for investigation.

A check of the Audi revealed it had been stolen out of Woodland Park.

Hillside Police detectives are investigating this incident.
