Attempted Carjacking has Victim Struggle with Suspect in Newark

An early morning violent attempted carjacking in Newark has authorities in Newark looking into the incident.

According to reports, shortly before 3:30 a.m. in the area of Hawthorne Ave. and Bergen Street, the victim's vehicle was struck from behind by a vehicle occupied by several black males.

When the victim exited the vehicle to assess the damage, one of the male suspects reportedly jumped into the drivers side of the victim's vehicle. Quick reaction by the victim had the vicim jump into the vehicle where a violent struggle for control of the vehicle was initiated.

During the struggle, the moving vehicle came to a halt, slamming into a tree at that location according to reports.

The victim was transported to University Hospital suffering non-life threatening injuries.

It is not immediately clear if the suspect was hospitalized but police are looking for at least two other black males who fled the scene occupying a dark colored truck.
