The search is still on for several armed men occupying a grey or green older modeled Jeep Cherokee wanted for committing multiple armed robberies and an attempted carjacking of a law enforcement officer in the city's South Ward since Saturday evening.
An investigation is underway into a late night attempted carjacking of a law enforcement officer with reports of shots fired.
Police responded to shots fired in the area of Sherman Ave. and Clifton Street at around 10:30 p.m. where responding units arrived to the scene to find an off-duty officer who reported being approached by several black males who were armed with a weapon when they ordered the officer's vehicle.
According to reports, the officer drew his service weapon and fired at least one shot at the suspects.
The suspects reportedly ran from the scene where they entered an older model Jeep Cherokee.
It is not immediately known if any of the suspects were struck by gunfire.
The officer did not suffer injuries during the incident. It is unclear what municipality the officer is assigned to.
