EMS transported a 19-year-old male to University Hospital after he was reportedly struck by gunfire Friday night in Newark.
Police responded to reports of shots fired in the 400 block of 4th Avenue shortly before 8 p.m.
Cops arrived to the scene where they found the victim suffering an apparent gunshot wound to the hand (pinky finger).
The victim reported to authorities that about 2-3 black male suspects (who were wearing dark colors) approached while he was on Peck Avenue and announced a robbery.
According to the victim, some type of physical struggle ensued, causing the gun to go off, striking him in the finger before the suspects fled the scene into a awaiting vehicle that sped away from the scene.
Residents in the area (who were outside during the reported timeframe) reported that they did not recall any activity on the block during the time of the incident.
The man's injuries were not reported to be life threatening.
