An Atlantic City man was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the July 2012, murder of 25 year-old Sedrick Lindo, Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner.
Officials say Joshua Cross was sentenced before Judge Honorable Patricia M. Wild, J.S.C. on January 11, 2019 to 40 years in New Jersey state prison and must serve 35 years before he is eligible for parole.
The sentencing follows Cross’ conviction on Monday, Dec. 10, 2018, by an Atlantic County jury for the murder of Lindo.
The case was tried before the Honorable Patricia M. Wild, J.S.C. and a jury found Cross, 31, guilty of the following charges: first-degree Knowing/Purposeful Murder, first-degree Conspiracy to Commit Murder, third-degree Endangering Child Welfare, and fourth-degree Aggravated Assault by Pointing a Firearm.
Authorities say on July 29, 2012, Lindo was shot dead on a front porch in the Carver Hall Apartment Complex in Atlantic City. A 3 year-old boy who was on the porch with his mother at the time of the shooting was sent to the hospital with injuries from a ricochet bullet. Lt. Kevin Ruga of the ACPO Major Crimes Unit and Atlantic City Police Det. Mitzi Cruz and Det. Neil Kane investigated the case and identified the defendant, Joshua Cross as a co-defendant and co-conspirator to the murder.
According to officials, Joshua Cross was 24 years-old at the time of the fatal shooting and is the first defendant to go to trial. The remaining co-defendants are awaiting trial and return to court Monday for a status conference.
The investigation was a cooperative effort between the ACPO Major Crimes Unit and the Atlantic City Police Department.
