Atlantic City Man Pleads Guilty to Kidnapping, Firearms Charges

Authorities in Atlantic County announced that on Monday, May 20, Glen Graves, 33, of Atlantic City, pleaded guilty before the Honorable Bernard E. DeLury, Jr., P.J.Cr. to first-degree kidnapping, second-degree possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose, and fourth-degree resisting arrest by flight.AdOfficials stated that under the terms of his guilty plea, Graves is expected to be sentenced to an aggregate term of 18 years in New Jersey State Prison, subject to an 85% period of parole ineligibility under the No Early Release Act.

Upon release from prison, officials said, Graves will be subject to intensive parole supervision for a period of five years.

According to officials, on the morning of December 27, 2022, Graves forcibly entered an apartment in Atlantic City while armed with a handgun.

Graves ransacked the apartment and then forced the resident, at gunpoint, to drive to a local bank, officials say. 

While seated in the backseat of the victim’s car, officials said, Graves forced the victim to withdraw $600.00 from the bank’s drive-through ATM.

Authorities say shortly thereafter, Graves fled from the victim’s car after police received a 911 call.

 

Graves fled from the police on foot and discarded a pair of latex gloves and a loaded handgun, which had a defaced serial number, officials say. AdUltimately, officials stated, law enforcement identified Graves through surveillance video, witness statements, and a positive DNA match from the latex gloves.

According to officials, Graves also pled guilty on unrelated indictments, and he is expected to be sentenced to concurrent prison terms on crimes including second-degree aggravated assault, second-degree possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose, and second-degree eluding police.

Officials said Graves admitted that on August 5, 2022, he fired a handgun at an occupied vehicle that had been driving through Brigantine Homes in Atlantic City.

Additionally, Graves admitted that on December 4, 2022, he deliberately eluded police officers from Egg Harbor City when he fled from a motor vehicle stop while in a stolen vehicle, officials say. 

Graves was apprehended in the spring of 2024 after a cooperative effort by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Galloway Township Police Department, authorities say. 

Officials said the kidnapping incident in December 2022 was investigated by the Atlantic City Police Department with assistance from the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office.AdThe shooting incident was investigated by the Atlantic City Police Department, and the eluding was investigated by the Egg Harbor City Police Department and the Egg Harbor Township Police Department, officials say. 

Graves was prosecuted by the Gangs, Guns, and Narcotics Unit of the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office. Graves is currently being held at the Atlantic County Justice Facility, and his sentencing is scheduled for July 2024, according to officials. 

Graves’ request to be released pending sentencing was opposed by the State and denied by Judge DeLury, officials stated.
