Asbury Park Shooting Kills One, Injures Another

Police are investigating what appears to be an attempted murder-suicide that has a 20-year-old man dead and a 30-year-old Asbury Park man in critical condition.

Shortly after 12:30 p.m., an officer assigned at a construction job near Asbury Avenue was flagged down but the victim, only identified as a 30-year-old city man, who had a gunshot wound in his head.

After the initial investigation, authorities secured a crime scene outside a First Avenue home where the shooting occurred and where police found the 20-year-old man – the alleged shooter - on an outside porch.

Police ordered the suspect to drop the weapon but instead turned the gun on himself and pulled the trigger.

The 30-year-old man was transported to an area hospital where he’s listed "extremely critical condition".

Neither of the men’s identities have been released.
