Residents and motorist passing by the area of South 10th Street and Springfield Avenue observed a mural of a New Jersey educator who lost his life in August 2018 at the hands of gunmen who fatally shot him on a street in East Orange.
East Orange educator Mr. Kofi A. Owens is being remembered by many for his excellence in enhancing the minds of students in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math at the STEM Academy.
Today, Saturday, June 22, is Mr. Owens' birthday, and some of his former students, friends and leaders in the community shared a poem with RLS Metro Breaking News platform members:
"Teachers are keys
That unlock the student's mind.
You are guides who mold our mind.
You are one of a kind.
You are like a shepherd
Who guides the sheep
To the right path.
You, teachers, turn the pages
Of the great books.
You train us well
To reach great heights.
Thank you, teachers,
For all you have done.
In the group of many
You are one. -**Meghana Vincent**
