Newark Police officials have issued warrants for the arrest of **Mr. Isaiah Ward, 43, of Irvington and Mr. Larne Purnell, 37, of Montclair** on charges of Aggravated Assault in connection with a shooting incident that occurred on a street in Newark Thursday.
According to a statement released by Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose, shortly after 2:00 p.m., officers responded to the 200 block of 6th Avenue on a shots fired call.
Authorities say officers arrived at the scene and found evidence that a shooting incident had occurred, however there appeared to be no injuries as a result of their thorough search of the area.
Detectives of the Major Crimes Shooting Response Team investigating the shooting gathered sufficient evidence identifying Ward and Purnell as the suspects in this incident Director Ambrose said.
According to police, on September 21st, warrants were issued for both men for charges of ggravated assault, the unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
Police say Ward is described as 5’8” tall and 230 lbs. with brown eyes and Purnell is described as 6’0” tall, 185 lbs. with brown eyes.
The investigation remains active and ongoing.
