Passaic County authorities announced that based upon an investigation by the Paterson Police Department, in conjunction with the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office, Yoel Maldonado- Nunez, 31, from Butler, was arrested in relation to a shooting investigation that took place on June 25, in the area of Market Street and Madison Street in Paterson.
According to authorities, Yoel Maldonado-Nunez is charged with Attempted Murder, First Degree; Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, Second Degree; Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Second Degree; and Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons, Second Degree.
Authorities say at approximately 6:16 a.m. on June 25, members of the Paterson Police Department were advised that a 23-year-old male Paterson resident had arrived at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, seeking treatment for a non-fatal gunshot wound.
Based on the investigation, police determined that the victim had been shot in the area of Market Street and Madison Street in Paterson.
According to Police, through the course of the investigation, officers identified Yoel Maldonado-Nunez as the shooter.
An arrest warrant was issued for Yoel Maldonado-Nunez, who turned himself into the Paterson Police Department on July 11, at approximately 1:45 p.m.
The State intends to file a motion for the pretrial detention of Yoel Maldonado-Nunez, which will be heard by a Superior Court Judge.
