A 42-year-old Linden man was arrested after police identified him as the driver responsible of striking and killing a Rahway man Friday, police said.
Police responded to the area of St. George Avenue and Race Street, around 5:40 p.m. Friday to find pedestrian, Jamar Hankerson, 36, of Rahway, had been struck by a vehicle.
Investigation led police to surveillance footage that shows a green Nissan Altima strike Hankerson.
An alert was issued seeking the public's help to find the driver.
Police said that thanks to a tip received from someone who saw a police sign board at the accident site, authorities arrested 42-year-old Piotr Ciuba of Linden.
Police said they recovered the car they believe struck Hankerson.
Ciuba was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal accident and was taken to the county jail with bail set at $75,000.
The accident remains under investigation.
