Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Director Anthony A. Caputo of the New Brunswick Police Department announced today that a New Brunswick man has been arrested and charged in connection with the murder of Sanddi Cruz, 30, of New Brunswick.
Authorities said on June 14, at approximately 11:30 p.m., police responded to the area of Seaman Street and Railroad Avenue following the report of a stabbing.
Upon arrival, officers located Sanddi Cruz, 30, of New Brunswick, who sustained multiple stab wounds to the chest.
Cruz succumbed to his injuries and died at the scene. It
An investigation by Detective Elfi Martinez of the New Brunswick Police Department and Detective Walter Kelley of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office identified Osman Ruiz-Castro, 31, of New Brunswick as the perpetrator.
Police said this was not a random act of violence and that Ruiz-Castro knew the victim, Sanddi Cruz.
Ruiz-Castro was arrested without incident in New Brunswick today.
He has been charged with one count of first-degree murder, one count of first-degree robbery, one count of second-degree conspiracy to commit robbery and one count of third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
Ruiz-Castro is presently lodged at the Middlesex County Adult Correction Center pending a pre-trial detention hearing in Superior Court.
