Authorities in Passaic County announced that Ramon Florentino Siri, 77, from Passaic, was arrested in relation to a stabbing that took place on September 4, 1997, in the area of Henry Street and Leonard Place, Passaic.Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes said that at approximately 10:33 p.m., on September 4, 1997, Passaic Police were dispatched to the area of Henry Street and Leonard Place on the report of an assault.
Upon arrival, officials said, police were able to locate a victim suffering from multiple stab wounds.
The victim was transported to St. Joseph’s University Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey, officials say.
According to officials, the subsequent investigation revealed that Ramon Siri was responsible for the stabbing, and he was charged and remained unapprehended.
Officials stated that on March 19, 2024, Passaic Police received information that Ramon Siri was in Passaic.
As a result, officials say, at approximately 4:22 p.m., the Passaic Police Department arrested Ramon Siri without incident.
The crime of Attempted Murder, First Degree, has a sentencing range of 10 to 20 years in prison with a requirement to serve 85% of the sentence before parole eligibility, officials said. Authorities say the crime of Aggravated Assault, Second Degree, has a sentencing range of 5 to 10 years in prison with a requirement to serve 85% of the sentence before parole eligibility.
The crime of Aggravated Assault, Third Degree, has a sentencing range of 3 to 5 years in prison, officials say, and the crime of Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, Third Degree, has a sentencing exposure of 3 to 5 years in prison.
The State filed a motion for pretrial detention and an indictment is merely a charging document, officials stated.
Despite these accusations, defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
