Armed Suspect Robs Quick Chek in Union

Union Township (Union)

Police in Union are on the search for a suspect accompanied by one other assailant who robbed a Union Quick Chek early Monday morning.

According to preliminary reports, police were called to 1090 Stuyvesant Avenue to investigate reports of an armed robbery in progress that occurred at approximately 3:25 a.m.

When units arrived at the scene, they were told by employees that two black males entered the establishment armed with a gun, pointed the weapon at the clerk then demanded cash.

After receiving an undetermined amount of proceeds, the suspects ran from the store and entered a dark-colored vehicle that sped away.

Police officers canvassing the area located the vehicle and began to follow it in an attempt to pull the driver over. Police lost sight of the car on Frelinghuysen Avenue and Concord Street in Newark.

Authorities in the region believe that the suspects are wanted for multiple armed robberies in the region including a shooting in Newark's West Ward. Union Police immediately beefed up their presence at the Morris Avenue Quick Check and other overnight establishments.

There were no physical injuries reported.
