Newark Police set up a crime scene in a section of the city while they investigated a shooting on Monday afternoon.
At approximately 1:30 p.m., gunfire erupted in the vicinity of Jay and Orange streets, prompting police to the scene to investigate.
Police say a vehicle stopped near the intersection, and the armed passenger began firing nearly a half dozen rounds into the air.
Officers arrived and found about a half dozen shell casings, but no victims were located during their search.
The suspects sped away from the scene and were last seen in Newark's South Ward.
No arrests have been reported.
