Police officials in Newark are investigating a shots-fired incident that involved a law enforcement officer in the city's Downtown overnight.
The circumstances behind what exactly prompted the shooting are under an active and ongoing investigation.
According to preliminary reports, at approximately 9:47 p.m., police responded to reports of a person stabbed in the vicinity of 1060 Broad Street near Pennington Street.
Units arrived at the scene and found a male suffering a non-life threatening stab wound to his arm.
The victim was treated and expected to make a full recovery.
At approximately 12:27 a.m., police responded to the same area where officials learned of shots fired near Lincoln Park.
Units pulled up to the scene and found evidence that a shooting occurred and witnesses reporting that a person was shot but left the scene.
Police have not confirmed a gunshot victim, but officers located at least one shell casing from a security officer's weapon.
Authorities believe that the two incidents are connected but continue investigating the motive.
