Armed Robbery, Violent Assault of Hillside Store Clerk has Authorities Searching for Suspects

A violent armed robbery of a convenience store in Hillside that turned into a brutal assault of a female store clerk this evening has authorities on the search for suspects.

The incident happened at a round 6:30 p.m. in the 1400 block of North Broad Street when frantic calls into police headquarters reporting an armed robbery in progress were answered with several police units arriving to the scene to investigate.

Police arrived to find a female victim bleeding and suffering a facial injury after reportedly being beaten by two male suspects who entered the store (armed with a gun) and announced the holdup.

According to the victim, the suspects shouted orders while repeatedly assaulted her with the gun. The men took a large sum of cash, (possibly several thousand dollars) before fleeing in a dark colored vehicle.

Police searched Clark Street (a residential portion of the neighborhood) hoping to find evidence connected with the robbery.

The victim's injuries were not considered life threatening.
