Armed Robbery at Linden Deli, Prompts School Lockdown

Linden

Police are looking for an armed man accused of holding up a Linden deli at gunpoint, prompting school lockdown.

Police responded to the G K Deli, located at 1131 S. Wood Avenue, shortly after 2:30 p.m. for a report of an armed robbery.

The store clerk told officers that a tall dark skinned male -wearing a mask - entered the store and pulled out a handgun as he demanded the cash in the register.

Once the robber fled the store the employee followed the suspect as he went through several backyards on E. 13th Street, where the clerk lost sight of him.

Officers are checking the area with the assistance of a scent dog from the Union County Sheriff’s Dept.

No injuries were reported.

It is unclear at this time if suspect obtained any money from the store.

As a precaution, Public School # 2 was briefly put on lockdown, until the area was deemed to be safe.

The investigation is continuing by the Detective Bureau.
