Authorities in Newark are investigating an armed robbery of a man that turned into a brutal assault in the city's Central Ward earlier this afternoon.
Police responded to the area of Court Street and Howard Street at around 2 p.m. after receiving reports of an armed robbery in progress.
Unitis arriving to the scene located a male victim who was bleeding heavily from the head after being attacked by two male suspects that robbed him at knifepoint then began to beat him with the weapon according to reports.
The victim was transported to University Hospital where his injuries were not reported to be life threatening.
The suspects took personal possessions before fleeing the area in a sky-blue 4x4 SUV reports said.
The incident is being investigated by the Newark Police Department.
