Armed Robbery Investigation Leads to Arrest of Juvenile in Hillside

Police are investigating a report of an armed robbery that occurred last week.

According to police, on June 13 at approximately 11:30 p.m., Sgt. Daniel Wanat and Patrol Officers Carlos Brito and Bryan Galvao responded to Gargiulio Produce after receiving information that Spanish-speaking employees was robbed on their way home from work.

Upon locating the victim, officers learned that an unknown male was reportedly hiding on the Bloy Street bridge stairwell and jumped out brandishing a handgun.

The robbery allegedly occurred at approximately 4:45 on June 12th. The suspect made off with the victim's cell phone, wallet and $105 in cash.

After the robbery, the suspect fled on foot and was described as a young black male, wearing a backpack and a red bandanna. The suspect was shirtless at the time of the robbery.

Further investigation, revealed a second robbery occurred in the same area. In this incident, the victim stated that the suspect matched the same description as the suspect in this robbery.

Patrol units surveilled the area for two nights upon receiving information about the robberies that took place.

On June 15th, police were informed that he saw the suspect in the area as he walked home from work.

Patrol units located the alleged suspect hiding near the bridge as if he was waiting for his next victim.

The juvenile suspect was found to be in possession of three cell phones and other proceeds from both robberies. Video surveillance retrieved by the Hillside Police Department Detective Bureau Crime Scene Unit, captured one of the robberies on video.

The suspect has been charged with robbery and receiving stolen property.
