Armed Robberies, Assault in Newark's South Ward has Police Searching for Suspects

There is an active search in the city's South Ward for armed robbery suspects that committed two armed robberies that left a man injured this evening.

Police responded to calls of an armed robbery in progress that happened in the 200 block of Hansbury Avenue at around 9 p.m. when they arrived to locate a male victim suffering injury after being violently attacked with a gun by two male suspects that demanded personal possessions.

The victim was reportedly beaten in the head and robbed of cash before fleeing the scene according to reports. EMS treated the victim for non-life threatening injuries. The victim reportedly did not speak fluent English and may not have understood the suspects' demands.

In the 1000 block of Hunterdon Street, police raced to the area after receiving calls of an armed robbery at gunpoint at around 9:15 p.m.

Officers were met by the victim who reported being robbed by two black male suspects a short time before police arrived.

The men reportedly pointed weapons at the victim and took keys, wallet, and a cellphone before running away form the scene.

Police described the suspects as two black males approximately 5'9" and 6ft tall.

Both of the victims were wearing short sleeve shirts. One of the suspects wore a grey hoodie on his head.

Both men are considered armed with guns and dangerous.
