Armed Men Target Gas Stations in Newark, Hillside

Newark New Jersey

Authorities in Newark and Hillside are investigating several overnight armed robberies of gas stations.

An armed robbery that occurred at a gas station in the 200 block of US Route 22 shortly after midnight in Hillside sent police to the scene where they began a search for two black males who brandished weapons taking cash before fleeing the scene in a black Range Rover with tinted windows.

This is the second armed robbery of gas stations in Hillside that occurred within a week. On Sunday March 22nd at approximately 8:15p.m.,  police responded to an armed robbery report in the city where two black males (armed with handguns) robbed the Express Fuel on Route 22 West. The men fled in an older model GMC Yukon.

Over in the 200 block of Elizabeth Ave. in Newark, (at about 12:30 a.m) armed men fitting the same description as the Hillside armed robbery suspects, pointed weapons at employees at the Gulf Gas Station taking an undetermined amount of cash before fleeing in a black Range Rover with no license plates.

The armed men unofficially concluded the night with an armed robbery of a gas station in the 400 block of Frelinghuysen Ave. where the men arrived at the gas station at around 2 a.m. taking cash from employees at gunpoint before fleeing the scene in an unknown direction.

There were no reported injuries in any of the armed robberies.
