Authorities in Union County placed a school on lockdown after police found a man outside of the building with a gun.
Officials said the Tamaques Elementary School in Westfield was ordered to shelter in place on Thursday afternoon as police took an armed man into custody after locating him the parking lot.
According to a statement released by police, the incident happened at around 4 p.m., shortly after school dismissed.
Police Officials said officers responded to a call from Delaware State Police seeking an individual they believed may be on the premises of Tamaques School.
Officers arrived and immediately located the suspect in a vehicle in the school's parking lot, in possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Police took the suspect into custody without further incident.
The suspect's identity has not been released at this time.
