Paterson Police apprehended an armed man who attempted to discard a weapon during an encounter with officers on Wednesday night.
The incident unfolded around 10:05 p.m. in the 80 block of Auburn Street, where police were conducting a warrant arrest operation.
According to officials, while attempting to serve the warrant, officers encountered the suspect, who began to resist and engaged in a physical struggle.
During the confrontation, the suspect reportedly discarded a loaded firearm. Officers were able to subdue the individual and take him into custody without further incident.
The suspect was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital for treatment and is currently in stable condition. No officers were injured during the altercation.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
